HighScope Curriculum
At Stepping Stones, we implement the HighScope Curriculum across all classrooms. HighScope is grounded in current child development theory, research, and best practices, providing an evidence-based framework that supports how young children learn and grow.
The HighScope approach places children’s interests and choices at the center of daily learning experiences. Teachers intentionally observe children, build on what they know, and design experiences that reflect their curiosity, strengths, and developmental needs. We believe families are a child’s first and most important teachers, and we value strong partnerships with parents. Through ongoing collaboration and communication, we work together to support each child’s growth, development, and overall well-being.
Active learning is the cornerstone of the HighScope Curriculum. Children learn best by actively engaging with materials, people, and ideas through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions. In every classroom, teachers support active learning by providing developmentally appropriate materials, experiences, and adult–child interactions that invite children to explore, problem-solve, and reflect on their learning.
