Toddler Program

Our Toddler Program is thoughtfully designed to help children achieve key developmental milestones across physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional domains. Stepping Stones accomplishes this through a team of well-trained, educated, and professional teachers who intentionally guide and support each child’s growth and early learning experiences.

Our program follows the HighScope Curriculum, a comprehensive, research-based approach that emphasizes active learning through meaningful adult-child interactions, hands-on exploration, and experiences driven by children’s interests. This approach balances large-group and small-group learning opportunities within a consistent yet flexible daily routine, supporting both structure and independence.

Toddlers are naturally curious, energetic, and eager to explore their world. To support this stage of development, our classrooms follow a predictable daily schedule that helps children navigate transitions with confidence and security. A typical toddler day includes meals, work time, small- and large-group activities, outdoor play, rest time, and daily care routines such as handwashing, diapering, and bathroom use.

Potty training is introduced in our older toddler classrooms and is approached as a collaborative and developmentally appropriate process. This important milestone supports growing independence and language development. Our classrooms are equipped with child-accessible restroom facilities, allowing teachers to support potty training based on each child’s individual readiness and interest.

Between the ages of 1 and 3, toddler development occurs rapidly and in exciting ways. During this time, children make significant progress in areas such as gross motor development, language acquisition, social interaction, problem-solving skills, independence, emotional regulation, and early moral development. Our program is designed to nurture and support these milestones while honoring each child’s unique pace of growth.
